Proofsound, the Danish duo formed by Michele Brustia and Paul Bjørling, just released an album to the public, Ad Extremum. It compiles some of their best tracks, originally published by Sonic Librarian: “15 great Proofsound cues from 2010-2011″, as the company explained via Facebook.

Ad Extremum is an hybrid rock/orchestra album, featuring epic, heroic and dramatic music, mixing intense heavy guitars, dynamic orchestral elements, and sometimes emotional female vocals as well. Here are one-minute previews of the tracks:

Last year we announced Heavy Melody Trailer’s debut release Fracture. This year they’re back with FRAGMENTS, and the bar has been raised.

Fragments includes repeating tonal signatures, percussive beds, hits, impacts, and risers: all things that should be really useful for editors given how sound design is playing such a big role in trailers and TV spots now.

They have made a sneak preview compilation public, and I recommend you check it out. It is some intense, and truly impressive stuff.

The high-end music library Anti-Hero just released a sixth volume, The Futurist. A dynamic, rythmical and aggressive hybrid electronic/orchestral album, offering very modern and quite futuristic tracks, with good builds up.

This volume was composed by Dan Diaz, founder of Anti-Hero. “I am proud to announce the release of the latest Anti-Hero album: “Volume 6: The Futurist”!”, Dan says. ”After several months in production, I feel the cues it contains possess a cool and unique combination of organic, electronic, and sound design elements, with driving rhythms, memorable melodic hooks, great builds and huge backends.”

Hosted by veteran composer Nick Murray, founder of the trailer music company switch., TrailerSound is a weekly show that takes you… behind the epic!

Through live interviews with various protagonists of the trailer music industry – composers, engineers, orchestra contractors, assistants, supervisors… you will “get to know the people behind the epic music you hear in movie trailers”. TrailerSound will give “an all-access look at the trailer music industry”, as Nick Murray explains on his blog.

Furthermore, you have the possibility to ask questions before shows via Facebook or Twitter, or live during the show, via Ustream.

Interviews are broadcasted live via Ustream every Thursday at 12:00 PST (8:00 pm GMT); they are also recorded and later uploaded to Youtube, where you can watch them again or catch up the latest episodes.

Auracle Music has released a fourth Orchestral Scores volume. Entitled Epic Themes, this collection of ten cinematic cues offers soaring, inspiring and majestic music.

The album was composed by Mark Petrie and John K. Sands.

Kosinus has released a new trailer music album, Action Movie Trailer, the 423rd (!) item of the catalog.

Kosinus has also released Percussive Hybrid Trailer, a dynamic album with “cinematic percussions, orchestral samples, synths, [and] breakbeats electronic FX”, that would certainly fit “intense percussive hybrid trailers for extreme action”.  Percussive Hybrid Trailer was composed by Christophe Gaurier, Franck Quintard, Frédéric Sans and Rémi Caroff, and is also available on the UPPM, Kapagama, EMI and APM websites.

An exclusive interview with Scott Doran, Director & Head of Creative of Must Save Jane, a new company specializing in music for motion picture advertising, and bringing together talented artists such as Jim Dooley, Alex Pfeffer, Inon Zur, and Robin Hoffman.

Trailer Music News: Must Save Jane is Altitude Music’s flagship project. When and why was the trailer music company founded ?

Scott Doran: I can’t go too far into it because Jane’s kidnapping is still under investigation. What I can say is that last year, we teamed up with music supervisor Anton Hiscock and L.A. agent Michelle Di Felice. We tested the water with a sampler of about ten trailer cues and half of them were synced to trailers within a couple of months. So we felt confident that we were onto something. Plus once you get into trailer music it consumes you, I’m always thinking ‘how big can you get a back end on a cue’.

TMN: In the description of your latest album Fantasy Adventure, we can read: “Into the unknown, our hero’s quest begins. Through wonders and glorious battle he must see his nemesis fall. And for what? His love, his lost soul, Jane!” Who is this mysterious Jane that must be saved?

S.C.: Jane was taken by the leader of an evil underworld gang. Our hero (her lover) must find her. Sounds simple but his journey will be twisted and epic! There will be space travel, time travel, horror and humour. Our job is to describe what his adventure sounds like.

TMN: Your catalog already features epic or adventurous orchestral music (Epic Orchestral Hybrid and Fantasy Adventure albums), as well as percussion and sound design (Explosive Drums and Cinematic Drones albums). What other genre(s) can we expect?

S.C.: There are no rules or plans. We know it when we hear it. We love the hybrid stuff and want to push that envelope hard. But we’re working with some top composers, so you can be sure there will be some surprises.

TMN: The trailer music industry is a highly competitive area these days, and various new companies are regularly created. What are Must Save Jane’s assets to stay competitive?

S.C.: Our assets are our composers, the connections and reputation of our agent in L.A. as well as our passion for what makes a trailer cue. The U.K. arm has 20 years experience right across the industry from supervision to management; to being signed to major labels.

TMN: Fantasy Adventure, your latest album, was recorded live with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Tell us a bit about this exciting adventure!

S.C.: Robin Hoffmann went to Prague to oversee the session. We have a video from this recording on our Facebook and on Robin’s; the thing that stands out to me is the quality of Robin’s writing skills. When we asked him to write for us, he scored the music (as in pen and paper) rather than recording a demo with samples. I hadn’t worked with a composer that way before. Old school!

TMN: Composers Jim Dooley, Alex Pfeffer, Inon Zur, Jimmy Ferrufino, Jonathan Dreyfus, Thomas E. Rouch, Tim Oliver and Robin Hoffman did an excellent job with Fantasy Adventure. Can we expect more music from them in the Must Save Jane catalog in the future?

S.C.: You certainly can, and other big name composers too, we’re very lucky to have some amazing talent involved in Must Save Jane.

TMN: Who else took part to the creation of this album?

S.C.: The main thing we concentrated on in making Fantasy Adventure was getting the balance between stand-alone tracks that are syncable for the editors, but also making sure the album as a whole is an enjoyable listening experience. It was the most fun I’ve had listening to recordings coming in. We work from an underground recording studio on Brick Lane that’s pretty isolated, but we were playing the tracks so loud anyone passing by would be transported to our fantasy world!

TMN: Do you have particular plans for the future? Will you release albums to the public?

S.C.: We have another drones album coming made by Jim Dooley and Mel Wesson. Mel is probably the best guy in the world at drones. You’ll hear him at work on The Dark Knight films. We have another fantasy album called True Magic coming soon too. Look out for super fresh sounding music by S. Peace Nistades and more from the master that is Jim Dooley. I’ll be uploading a few sneak preview tracks from that to our Soundcloud very soon. We’ve been teaming up a few guys up for a new hybrid project. The brief is ‘make us the future’, anyone out there up to the challenge get in touch!

TMN: Anything else you would like to share with us?

S.C.: Just that we think this is an exciting time for trailer music. It’s only a matter of time before we see trailer cues hitting the top ten singles chart. Two Steps From Hell have paved the way with their commercial success, and I see that continuing and growing in the next few years. It’s evolving so fast. If you can sell a multi-million dollar film with this music, then…

TMN: Indeed! We are also convinced that it is an exciting time for trailer music!

ADN Compositions is a new company, founded by British composer Alex Norman in 2011, with the ambition to create music for various media, including trailers of course. Their motto: “Creating Epic Music For All Media”!

“In my opinion, music doesn’t just compliment certain scenes in a film or tv program etc, it elevates it so that it feels special, not just pictures on a screen”, Alexander Norman says. ”From orchestral scores to electronic beats to atmospheric layers , I create a vast range of music that matches and suits the atmosphere and feel of any project I work on.”

ADN Compositions’ first album, Neo Terra, is due out in July 2013 and will feature epic hybrid/orchestral music; “it will contain the whole spectrum of the Epic Music genre, mainly focusing on orchestral and electronic elements.”

Neo Terra was inspired by various fictions - Warhammer 40K, Stephen King’s The Dark Tower… The album will be released to professionals, as well as to the public. In the meantime, you can already purchase ADN Compositions’ music on Bandcamp or license it via the company’s website.

In addition to composing trailer music, Alex Norman is also currently scoring short films.

Saga is the first public album from the famous Full Tilt catalog, started by Kaveh Cohen and Michael Nielsen.

After receiving many requests from fans, the duo decided to release a compilation of some of their best tracks. “After years of requests from legions of fans worldwide, the greatest hits from FULL TILT are finally coming to iTunes in one blockbuster release, SAGA.”

Saga offers “Pure, unadulterated EPICNESS!”, according to Full Tilt. The cues have been used in various advertising campaigns for movies and games; recent placements include The Lone Ranger (“Coup de Grâce”),  Lincoln (“Convergence”), The Bourne Legacy and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (“Still Water”), Spec Ops: The Line (E3 Trailer) (“Shellshock”), Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (“Interstellar”)…

One of the best uses of Full Tilt’s music so far is probably the one with “Conviction” in the last part of the Robin Hood trailer (from 1:27 to the end), which went out in 2010:

Physical CD releases might follow – it will depend on the reception of the album and the number of people wanting CDs. “It’s possible… if there’s enough interest from the fans. Let us know!” Full Tilt says.

The Full Tilt catalog, originally owned by Ninja Tracks, the trailer music company founded by Michael Nielsen and Kaveh Cohen, is no longer runned by them, and is now the property of Warner/Chappell Production Music. Ninja Tracks is now developing a new catalog, Revolution, which already includes the successful Zero album.

Phantom Power: editor friendly music and sound design 

Phantom Power’s ”goal is to make editor friendly music and sound design that makes your trailer, promo, or commercial stand out”. Their work has been featured in trailers for movies such as The Avengers, The Bourne Legacy, Call of Duty, Transformers, Battle LA, G.I. Joe, Fast and Furious 4, 2012, Fringe (TV), Hancock, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Kung Fu Panda, Eagle Eye, Cloverfield, and many more.

You can indeed hear their track “Double Agent” in The Bourne Legacy trailers, for example.

Phantom Power’s music isn’t available to the public via iTunes or other platforms, however, it is possible to download the tracks for free via Soundcloud.

Black Phoenix Music is a trailer and soundtrack music company founded by a Germano-Austrian duo, Michael Maas and Christoph Allerstorfer. Their first album, The Resistance, is due out soon and will feature the talented vocalist Julie Elven, known for her work with Ivan Torrent.

Trailer Music News: What is Black Phoenix Music ?

Michael Maas and Christoph Allerstorfer : We are two composers who teamed up to create music for trailers but also for films and games.

TMN: Who is part of the team?

M.M. and C.A.: Most of our music is written by ourselves, but sometimes we do collaborations with other composers or musicians as well.

TMN: Your first album will be entitled The Resistance. Why this name? What genre(s) of music can we   expect?

M.M. and C.A.: We came up with this idea during the creation of our promo video done by Rain Ventsel. Awesome work from him by the way! We thought that scenes from Terminator Salvation would work very well with our music and we really liked the mood of this post-apocalyptic world. So the idea was to make an album with songs about destruction and chaos but also about new hope and winning back freedom.

You can expect some massive tracks with lots of energy but also some more quiet, emotional songs.

TMN: Was your music recorded live, or did you also use synths?

M.M. and C.A.:  We are using many different sample libraries and software synths but we try to use live recorded instruments as often as possible. Sometimes it really helps the songs if you record just a simple shaker line for example.

M.M. and C.A.:  We plan to release the album also to the public but we can’t say yet when it will be available.

According to Shockwave Sound, Cinematic Themes Vol. 06 offers ”Hollywood style, soaring and emotive, orchestral tracks”.

“Our Cinematic Themes series contains music with that ‘expensive’ production sound, featuring full orchestra and sometimes choir, in cinematic / soundtrack music setting”, the company explains. “This collection features no less than 13 tracks of delicately produced orchestral works, ranging from the dark and ominous (‘Near Thing’) to the playful and optimistic (‘Morning Way’, ‘A Nice Adventure’) to the soaring, inspirational and emotive (‘Spirit of the Mountain’, ‘Going Home’).”

This sixth volume of the Cinematic Themes series was composed by Jack Francis. The album is available for listening and licensing on the Shockwave Sound website.

These collections of epic trailer music cues, respectively entitled Chemical Re:Action and  Re:Action Earth, feature several pieces that have been used in trailers for blockbuster movies such as Green Lantern, Upside Down and Iron Man 3. Yes, The Hit House is now Tony Stark Approved!

“CHEMICAL RE:ACTION is now on iTunes!”, The Hit House says. ”Our first action release features “Chlorine” which you may have heard on the Green Lantern motion picture ad campaign.” RE:ACTION EARTH is also here. ”Featuring “Basalt” off the latest Iron Man 3 trailer along with other tectonic-shaking, magma-hot tracks. All available on iTunes now.” 

Re:Action Earth, released in 2012, is a sequel to Chemical Re:Action, which went out in 2010. While the theme of the first opus is based on chemical elements – radium, lithium, argon… – the theme of the second one is  more explosive and magmatic, with tracks named after volcanic rocks, minerals or natural phenomenons. Both albums offer epic and dramatic cues, particularly Re:Action Earth with pieces such as “Basalt”, of course, but also “Obsidian” or “Quartz”.

Chemical Re:Action was composed by Scott Miller, and Re:Action Earth by Danail Getz.

Last but not least, a third opus is already in preparation. “We’re [...] excited to announce that there’s a new RE:ACTION library in the works“, The Hit House says.

Sonic Symphony’s ninth album, Maximus, is a continuation of their previous epic hybrid/orchestral release, Eternity. 

The style and the atmosphere of Maximus are indeed very similar. Like its predecessor, Maximus is a very dynamic album, offering a collection of intense cues, with heavy guitars and drums, combined to modern electro elements and orchestra. The sound is aggressive, powerful, futuristic.

“Maximus picks up where our last album Eternity left off”, Sonic Symphony explains. ”Pushing the envelope even further, this disc delivers the next-generation trailer music sound. Featuring 20 futuristic, ultra-modern trailer music compositions with special focus on an eclectic mix of orchestral motifs, pulsing electro sounds,  innovative sound design, and a powerful rythm section that creates colossal excitement.”

Maximus was composed by Michal Cielecki, Gerry Owens, Ivan Torrent, Twin Scoring Studio, and Attila Áts.

Besides Maximus, Sonic Symphony just released another trailer music album at the same time - Start Stop Rise, featuring sound design.

Specifically formulated for effortless synchronization, this disc is a trusty ‘swiss army knife’ for cutting contemporary high end blockbuster trailers and TV spots. The DVD includes 70 compositions, all ’30 seconds’ in duration.”

Picture Puncture’s upcoming album, entitled The Equilibrium Anthology, is a modern collection of epic and dramatic cues: ”Theatrical Setups, Climactic Payoffs, Trailer Remixes”.

Why call it “The Equilibrium Anthology”? The idea of balance and equilibrium was inspired to Picture Puncture through exploring various artistic fields, while working on a project of an album of modern dramatic and epic cues. The idea of balance between chaos and order, dark and light… which is ubiquitious throughout mythology, human history, or even great movies, led Picture Puncture to the creation of a package of trailer music that would reflect this concept. Hence the name “The Equilibrium Anthology”!

Executive producer Daniel Holter explains: “throughout the production we would highlight the lowlights, enhance the shadows, add light to dark and dark to light, try to make beautiful things dangerous and ugly and mold the danger and ugliness into something beautiful.”

The Equilibrium Anthology was recorded both live and electronically, and features live instruments and soloists, as well as synths, which reflects the idea of balance and equilibrium of this album.

The main themes were composed by Chris Mosher; the remixes were made by various up-and-comers and the mixes, by Mat Prock and Doug McBride. The album was mastered by Justin Perkins.

The industry release of The Equilibrium Anthology will happen very soon; it will be available for licensing through The License Lab. The public release will follow soon after this, via iTunes, Spotify and other platforms.

Picture Puncture, a relatively new trailer music label

Picture Puncture is a label that belongs to The License Lab, a music licensing company created in 2011 by Dennis Dunn and Daniel Holter, and produced by The Burst Collective.

“When everything is epic, nothing is epic. Picture Puncture is supersonic impact for moving pictures. A bespoke collection of exclusive music and elements for use in trailers, promos, video games, and advertising.”

If you enjoy hard rock and heavy guitars, Solaris may suit you. This new industry release from Two Steps From Hell is a dynamic collection of epic rock/orchestra cues, containing a high dose of heavy guitars.

Solaris was composed by Alex Pfeffer, who also regularly works on video games, sample library demos and other various multimedia projects.

“Zeitgeist” is originally a German word, that can be translated to ”spirit of the times”. With this trailer music release, Fired Earth Music adopts a new style, indie music, that radically changes from their previous album Heroes.

Less orchestral, Zeitgeist features mainly pop/rock/electronic music: “epic and inspirational trip hop, orchestral beats and cinematic indie”, according to Fired Earth Music. ”Love-tinged soundscapes and experimental orchestral electronica.” 

Many pieces have light and positive atmospheres, and evocative or uplifting tunes; some tracks, however, are more sad and emotional, like “Dying is Easy”.

Zeitgeist was composed by Stephen Hilton. “With his calendar booked up for the foreseeable future on Hollywood’s biggest film projects, Hilton felt it was time to work on a solo project, blending his roots with his current film world. This March, Europe sees the release of his first solo record ‘Zeitgeist’, an album designed for film trailers. [...] The album of ten tracks is split into two halves: ‘Day’ – love-tinged, dreamy soundscapes and ‘Night’ – experimental orchestral electronica. The album features interesting string arrangements and performances by ‘Geese’, the London based duo who have produced remixes and string arrangements for the likes of Hot Chip, Jon Hopkins, David Holmes, James Yorkston, Adrian Crowley and various others.”
