The Dawn

The Eighth Dawn's long-awaited album The Dawn is (finally) out. And no, it's not their eighth album... it's the fourth one! "Welcome to “The Dawn”, our first epic drama CD featuring 44 d3liciously dripping hybrid orchestral scores by Academy Award winning composer, T. B. Folmann. The Dawn embraces all the existing conventions of high-end trailer music, but elevates- and breaks the trend by introducing alternative cinematic RnB mixes to some of the scores. The music is tailored for high-end productions that needs the beauty and breath of the orchestra and choirs fused with the boldness and sexiness of more contemporary music. All tracks are available USB, HDD and/or direct download to all tracks and stems."

The tracks use various audio samples from 8Dio, a company also owned by Troels Folmann. Here are some of them - they all sound great and a good pair of heaphones (or speakers) is highly recommended...

  • "The Dawn", primarily composed with Liberis

  • "The Secret Color", primarily composed with Rythmic Aura (a tool that was also used for "Aura", by Thomas Bergersen, for example)

Other examples are "Castles of the Sun" (composed with Epic Taiko Ensemble), "The Origin" (composed with Requiem Pro)... The Dawn can be purchased via iTunes and Amazon (the Amazon links will be available very soon) (visit our "store" for more information) or licensed via 8Dawn's site.

A fifth album by 8Dawn is in the works - it's called Derailed and it will be harcore rock. More precisely, "a bunch of nasty slamming hybrid rock tracks by [...] Troels B. Folmann and composer Frederick Russ"

West One Music's latest releases

Amongst the albums recently added to the West One Music catalogue, here are:

You can listen to all the albums on West One Music's site.

News from SoundCloud

Why SoundCloud? It may seem obvious. Since the site has become a very useful tool for artists, who can share and promote their latest compositions, a lot of epic and emotional music was posted there.

Amongst these:

  • an artist I just discovered: de-tune (SoundCloud pseudonym), also known as Dirk Elhert. He is a free lance artist and he has written nice cinematic trailer music. All of them are royalty free tracks. Simply forget the "audio jungle" audio watermark and enjoy!

  • It is highly recommended to explore the demos posted by 8Dio (on the 8Dawn account) even if you're not a composer - you might find some interesting tracks there... ;) Here are a couple of examples. First, the epic percussion bundle contains two tracks that might remind you of some Fired Earth Music tracks. Second example: the choir bundle. You will find beautiful tracks such as "Born in Gold" by Jasper Blunk, "Liberis" by Colin O'Malley, "Origins" by Troels Folmann... The choir bundle was originally done for Tonehammer (Requiem Pro and Liberis libraries), which was merged with 8Dio. Oh, and check this as well - it's kitchen-made. Interesting isn't it?

  • Mark Petrie posted two new tracks: "Dreamland" and "Omega Point". As always, it's Petrie-esque. Aka very good!

I'm too sexy for my...

8Dawn first (and definitely not the last) commercial album, 2S3XY, is released on various channels. Please refer to our STORE to find the most suitable option for purchasing.

" 2S3XY is a 17 track cinematic RnB album. A hybrid fusion between the sexiness and looseness of contemporary RnB delicately mixed with contemporary cinematic and orchestral elements. Check out the full length version of a track from the 2S3xy album, so you can get a feeling for the unique style. The track features famous jazz musician Steve Tavaglione on muted trumpet. Hope you like it. "

p.s. more albums "Torn" and "Dawn" to come, check out some samples at SoundCloud

From dusk till dawn

Hoy, hoy! As there was no word of this news on the site and I think it's worth mentioning even if it's not topical: Troles Folmann, the composer of Tomb Raider's epic scores, started his own company called 8 Dawn. The library came out with four debut albums Beginning, Dawn, Torn and 2S3XY and offers tracks in wide range of musical genre - for now - only for production houses.

I recommend to check the samples of Beginning to get an overall tast of 8 Dawn musical world, but don't forget to listen the demos of Dawn which was written in epic drama style and feature dynamic vocal and robustious choir.

Fired Earth Music featured in 'Percy Jackson' international trailer

"Man of Steel" from Fired Earth Music was used in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief campaign.  It's a pretty epic track from the album 'Vulcano', composed by Troels Folmann, and it can be heard in the international trailer below (1:04 - end), as well as in a few featurettes.  You can watch the featurettes at Troels Folmann's blog.

Also, be sure to check out the other trailers for music by Full Tilt, Audiomachine, Two Steps From Hell, and Ars Arcana.  Yep, music from 'The Savage Tongue' is still being used in trailers.

(Thanks Hannah for the heads up!)

Fired Earth Music releases its second album: 'Cyanite'

Fired Earth Music contacted us to let us know about their newest addition to their library!  First I'll introduce the company itself, if anyone missed our previous post about Fired Earth Music and their debut album Vulcano.  (Be sure to check out their awesome new website, if you haven't already!)

FIRED EARTH MUSIC, launched Summer 2009, is the new music library causing a buzz in Hollywood. Providing premium cues exclusively for motion picture advertising, Fired Earth Music is working with esteemed trailer music composers to release small collections of high-end theatrical cues quarterly.

Their explosive first album, Vulcano, was composed by British Academy Award winner, Troels Folmann.  Folmann has specialized in emotional and epic orchestral scores for feature trailers, including: Valkyrie, Xmen 3, Spiderman 3, 10,000 B.C., and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 to name a few.

Vulcano is Fired Earth Music’s epic debut album, described as:

“The ultimate hybrid fusing Dramatic Orchestral with Rock, Electronic and Tribal, all blazing with intensity, emotion and intrigue."

The small album contains 18 unique cues, each with alternate mixes and an effects pack. Check out the reel here:

Vulcano Reel

Check out the full cues at www.firedearthmusic.com.

Cyanite is their new album, and a wide range of themes are on the slab: slasher, hostage, mystery, suspense, abduction, torture, sex and sci-fi.  This horror / suspense / fantasy album, was composed by the highly acclaimed composer,  Aleksandar Dimitrijevic, whose cues have been used on campaigns for Spiderman, Narnia, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Underworld: Evolution.  Cyanite is described as,

“A gritty sonic panic attack of bone-sawing
 and nerve-shredding cues from the
edge of psychosis.”

Be sure to check out this interview with composer Aleksandar Dimitrijevic, here!

Fired Earth Music is now turning their attention to their third album for release in December. We'll be sure to post about it here, the moment it comes out.

Troels Folmann's Epic Dhol Demo

Troels Folmann has recently posted an epic dhol demo on his blog. He made available to download it along with the only-dhol version.

Troels Folmann presents: Epic Reel 2008

Troels Brun Folmann is a video game composer. He worked mainly with Eidos Interactive for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary. He won the Mix Foundation TEC Award for the Best Interactive Entertainment Sound Production at his composing debut for Tomb Raider with Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend. He also composed the main theme tune for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Underworld utilizing the old Tomb Raider theme in the beginning and end of the piece. Altough he is a video game composer, he published this epic demo reel which is, hmm... how can i say?, AWESOME. Really i did not know he is as good as we can imagine from listening to his compositions. This reel is simply impressive, larger-than-life, immersive, uplifting,...and so on. I like the way he uses drums. Combining vocal with choir makes this demo extremely exotic. The final climax should be more powerful but outstanding work indeed. Rating: 8.5/10
