Random question of the day...
Hoy, hoy! Who is the composer who worked with one of Hollywood's leading trailer music libraries for several years, has his own company and cannot stand Lady Gaga? Although, this last one is not a great help, because this can be true of at least half of Earth's population... Ah and by the way, we will do an interiew with him.
Which song needs a remake?
Hoy, hoy! I watched the trailer of Serj Tankian’s new album when he preforms his songs rearranged with orchestra and I loved it, but it made me think: what the hell is missing? I just thought how awesome would it be with choir in the backgorund. And it led me to a question which I want to ask from you now: In your opinion which classic hit song have been rearranged in trailer music style?
Don’t forget that this has happened some cases already. Some songs from other genres were already reorchestrated and ended up in trailers. Just start the with the most famous one: " Requiem for a Tower"'s origin is Clint Mensell’s masterpiece "Lux Aetherna" from Requeim for a Dream. Movie soundtracks are not so far in style from trailer music, because usually scores are built from symphonic instruments as well, so it’s not really what I meant with song hit, but this one is the most well known.
Do you remember the trailers for the Underworld movies? During the trailer of the first sequel a song called "Red Tape" by Agent Provocateur was used. Later a symphonic version of this song was heard in the theatrical trailer of Underworld: Evolution. So what happend? Veigar Margeirsson kept the marked vocal of the original compositon and reorchestrated the song. It’s better or not – it’s not a question now. An other example is "Ten Years of Kashmir" by Corner Stone Cues. The original song, "Kashmir" was preformed by the rockband Led Zeppelin.
So my question is if you would have a chance to hear one hit reorchestrated in epic orchestra and choir which would you like to hear?
Well I would like to hear "All along the watchtower".
How does Trailer Music inspire you?
I read a recent comment on Thomas Bergersen's Nemesis II blog that I found pretty cool. Here it is:
Elliott wrote to Thomas this:
Thomas, I thought you might find it interesting where some of your music is being listened to, am currently deployed overseas and me and some of my buddies use TFSH music to psyche ourselves when we need to get encouraged…it’s very inspiring music and no matter which side of the political spectrum someone identifies with regards to this war, your music helps gives us a boost everyday to do our jobs. Don’t worry, it’s not being mass copied and distributed across the 4th Infantry Division or anything, it’s just some of us in my team that like soundtrack music…it’s great during helo hops! Our favorite is the Legend Promo, the second movement is awesome! :D
Trailer music obviously can have a bigger impact on people's lives than one might imagine. Yoav Goren touched on this in our interview with him. This personal anecdote in particular is a really great example of that. Of course, the point of music in trailers is to make you want to see the film. Yet if it accomplishes this when put to picture, what does it accomplish when listened to on its own?
I thought I'd take this opportunity to ask, why do you listen to trailer music? Does it inspire you? Does it relax you? Has your routine changed since you first began listening to trailer music? Has your life changed?
Now, the last time we asked this question no one responded! I know someone out there must have something to say. ;)
Question of the week
Hoy, hoy! I’ve been always interested in if trailer music ever inspired you in any way. And now it’s a good occasion to ask you about it, because there is no news. Usually after this statement I find a lot.
I’ve talked with Old_Death about the trailer music sometimes ago and he mentioned that one of the characters of his comic was inspired by trailer music. He was listening to trailer music while he created the character’s background, some storyline etc. This is a good example.
In my case, I tried to compose trailer music, but be honest: Who didn’t? Or at least you thought of it. Although I was brave enough to show one of my songs to greg and Old_Death. I didn’t manage to deafen them so I am pretty good, I guess. Hehe.
Question of the day: Dreamcatcher
Hoy, hoy! Imagine that you would like to built a site for trailer music fans. What kind of features would be indispensable? Would you make a forum? In your opinion a new database of musical usage for trailers is necessary? So the question is: How do you imagine the trailer music site of your dreams?
Trivia: Only an essay with minimum 200 words is acceptable.
Identify the instrument
Try to identfy this instrument heard below. First correct guess wins. The winner gets a copy of album Ashes (no, it is a joke ;D).
Well, nobody answered correctly. Although this drum is made of metal but there are lots of drums made of metal so this answer : "Steel drum" is not exact nor acceptable. This instrument is a HANG DRUM. Unfortunately I cannot give Ashes to anyone :P.
